"I believe every writer has a unique voice — it is my mission to help you showcase it through clear, compelling works."

I spent too much time trying to hide my voice, my self—believing that if I stayed small and strove for normalcy, I would get by.

I don’t want to get by and neither do you. Together, we can thrive.

Forget normalcy! I’m here to use my skill with words, desire for collaborative storytelling and experience with accessibility to lift up your creative or professional work.

As an editor...

I shifted my career from education to editing in 2020, bringing from the former to the latter an understanding of the need for trust and open communication to create quality work. Education is part of the editing process: language and publishing trends evolve and part of my editing work is to update my clients on relevant changes.

I earned my certification in editing from Simon Fraser University in 2022 and began to establish my freelance business part-time while teaching. When it became clear that trying to be successful in both careers meant failing at both, I jumped into the unknown waters of full-time freelancing. I joined editing societies (Editors Canada and ACES), through which I continue to develop my skills and connect with fellow editors. I sought out clients and publishers, building my portfolio.

I continue to learn, to grow and to focus my practice on identifying and elevating your unique voice and communicating it clearly.

You can find a sample of my freelance editing work in my portfolio.

As a writer...

I sharpened my writing on the whetstone of fiction. In writing flash fiction and short stories, I learned to economize language. I explored the melody of lines and the rhythm of paragraphs to see the world differently and showcase it clearly.

My fascination with words did not stop at fiction. I applied the same techniques to blogs, academic works and professional emails.

My belief is that if you want your reader to engage with your content, give them a reading experience they will remember.

A bit more about my work with accessibility

In bios, I often state that I am passionate about accessibility. It is a passion I come by naturally. I was born visually impaired—in that liminal space between sighted and fully blind that can go overlooked. The quiet challenges that this presented as I grew up made me sensitive to those living in a world not made for them. Because of this, after graduating with a Bachelor of Education, I was drawn to work with neurodivergent students and students with disabilities. I helped teachers and administrators provide appropriate accommodations. It was my hope to not force students to fit into school but to help school work for their unique view of the world.
Since shifting my career into editing, I have advocated for accessibility in writing spaces. I believe that langauge and design should be open to all. This begins by helping publishers and writers understand the barriers that can go unnoticed by those who can easily step over them.
